Shanghai Masters Live Stream

Andy Murray will be looking to defend his title at the Shanghai Masters this week, the penultimate Masters 1000 event of the season. How Murray must wish there was a Grand Slam held in Asia around this time of the year. The British player's form on the hard courts of the Far East has been nothing short of sublime over the past couple of years and this season he heads to Shanghai on the back of back-to-back ATP titles in Bangkok and Tokyo, the latter achieved by stunning Rafael Nadal in three sets.

It is somewhat ironic that the two biggest favourites for the Shanghai title, are the two who have complained most vociferously about the schedule over the past year, Nadal and Murray. It will be a major surprise not to see these two protagonists involved in the latter stages this week, Murray performed superbly to take out Roger Federer to pick up his sixth Masters 1000 shield last year and his rivals will be desperately hoping he runs out of gas after all the matches he's played in the past fortnight.

After making the final of the inaugural Shanghai Masters in 2009, Nadal crashed and burnt in the third round last year. He always looks a little vulnerable during the Asian indoor swing but at the same time, he will be desperate to try and end the season on a high after being thoroughly eclipsed by Novak Djokovic throughout 2011.

Unfortunately we are to be denied a seventh edition of Djokovic-Nadal 2011 this week, both the Serb and Roger Federer wisely opting to rest this week. Djokovic's wiry frame has taken a thorough pounding this year and after winning three of the slams, he has nothing left to prove to the tennis world right now

There are a number of intriguing sub-plots this week with the race for those vital ATP World Tour Finals spots intensifying in recent weeks. Both Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Tomas Berdych have given their chances a big boost by winning titles over the past month and it's now up to their rivals to play catch up. With so many points on offer though this week, things could change in a flash.

Nicolas Almagro, Gilles Simon, Juan Martin Del Potro, Janko Tipsarevic and Gael Monfils are among the players who need to find something special this week. Simon has a decent draw this week and should reach the quarters where he could run into Murray but he really needs to go deeper than that. He loves the indoor swing, but can he find something special this week ? The same goes for Tipsarevic who will probably need to take out Berdych to make it to the last eight.
